Building a Cross Platform Mobile Application at a Student Driven Startup
My three-month internship as a Frontend Development Intern at LMWisemen Technologies was my first opportunity to experience the realities of product development in a startup environment.
Unlike larger organizations with specialized teams and well-defined processes, our team consisted primarily of college students who were responsible for building and improving the product together. The environment was energetic, collaborative, and constantly evolving. Every new feature brought a different challenge, and every team member was expected to contribute beyond a narrowly defined role.
My primary responsibility was to develop the complete v1 mobile application using Flutter for both iOS and Android platforms. Building a cross-platform application from the ground up required much more than simply writing code. I had to translate product requirements into intuitive user interfaces, implement application logic, optimize the user experience, and ensure consistent behavior across multiple devices and operating systems.
Working on the first production release also taught me the importance of balancing development speed with code quality. In a startup environment, requirements can change rapidly, and developers must be able to adapt without compromising the stability of the product.
Perhaps the most valuable lesson from this experience was learning how ideas evolve into a working product. From planning and development to testing and deployment, I gained exposure to the complete mobile application development lifecycle.
This internship strengthened my technical foundation in Flutter and cross-platform development while also teaching me the importance of ownership, teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication in a fast-paced startup environment.
